Moharram
Muharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar and is considered one of the four sacred months in Islam. It is a time of mourning and remembrance for Muslims, as it marks the anniversary of the Battle of Karbala, which took place in the year 680 CE. The Battle of Karbala was a conflict fought between the forces of the caliph Yazid I and the followers of the prophet Muhammad’s grandson, Imam Husayn. The battle ended in the death of Imam Husayn and many of his followers, and is considered a turning point in the early history of Islam. Muharram is a time of reflection and remembrance for Muslims, and is marked by mourning rituals and processions, particularly among Shia Muslims.
