International Literacy Day

International Literacy Day is a day celebrated annually on September 8th to raise awareness about the importance of literacy and to promote education and lifelong learning opportunities for people around the world.

The day was first designated by the United Nations in 1965 as a way to focus attention on the global problem of illiteracy and to promote efforts to increase literacy rates. International Literacy Day is celebrated in countries around the world, with events and activities organized to raise awareness about the importance of literacy and the role it plays in empowering individuals and communities.

The day is an opportunity to recognize the progress that has been made in increasing literacy rates around the world and to renew efforts to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to learn to read and write.
